Coaching

I’m a working actor who coaches actors, so I know what the room, the set, and the self-tape actually demand right now. I don’t believe in one technique. I draw on a wide toolbox (Stanislavski, Meisner, Michael Chekhov, Suzuki, Viewpoints, Linklater, Roy Hart, clown and more) and use whatever serves you, this scene, and this audition.

My coaching is warm and honest. I listen closely, I care about the actor in front of me, and I tell you the truth about your work, kindly and without softening it. Playfulness comes early, because an actor who has laughed at themselves is far more willing to take the next risk. From there, we get specific: the habits that get in your way, the choices that make a performance yours, and, for camera work, the mechanics of frame awareness, eyeline, physical economy, and micro-expression.

I coach professionals, MFA and BFA students, and high schoolers, in NYC and remote. My clients have booked roles on Law & Order: SVU, Unorthodox, Transformers: Cyberverse, and national campaigns for Office Depot and Paramount+. Others have been admitted to competitive graduate programs and signed with top-tier agents. Dialect work includes Romanian, Yiddish, French, Brooklyn, Texas, and Boston.

"Ben is a really wonderful teacher.  He's great at listening and figuring out what you need as an actor.  He has really insightful perspective on how to tackle characters in a unique and authentic way and can also help you get out of your own head. Most importantly, Ben is funny and kind and just a pleasure to work with." - Mira Kessler, Netflix's Unorthodox

"Ben was my first acting coach and helped me prepare for my professional stage debut. I’m a big fan of his direct no nonsense style and learned a lot from his passion and skill for the craft. The tools he’s given me continue to help me grow as an actor to this day." - Eli Rosen, Off-Broadway's God of Veangence

“Ben’s coaching is highly practical, personally tailored and easy to apply. He is adept at picking up on little gaps in specificity and asking the perfect questions, so that I can bring myself more into the work. My work now feels more nuanced, more exciting, and more my own. The vocal work he did with me has become an indispensable part of my process." - Deanna McGovern, Transformers: Cyberverse; Cartoon Network
